About the Library

Wilmot New Hampshire has offered its citizens the benefits of a library since 1898.  Originally housed in private homes, the collection moved to a room over the Town Hall in 1924.  During most of this period, a branch of the library operated in Wilmot Flat.  Also housed in private homes, it subsequently moved to a room in the Grange (Old Community Center).  In 1972, the Wilmot Public Library moved into the one-room school house in Wilmot Center and in 1991 an addition was added to that building.
Funding to the library is provided by an appropriation from the town of Wilmot, as well as donations, memorial gifts, grants and monies raised by the Friends of the Wilmot Public Library.  The library is equipped to receive donations of securities through a brokerage account.

Membership

Membership in the Wilmot Public Library is open to all.  There is no fee for joining and residency in Wilmot is not necessary.  Each patron family is assigned a unique number by which they may borrow materials.  Membership in the “Friends” is encouraged.

Friends of the Wilmot Public Library

The FOWPL is a group of people organized to help support the library. They arrange bake sales, exhibits, programs and special projects with proceeds going to the library.  In the spring, they publish a newsletter and offer a program as part of their annual meeting.
Donation Policy

WPL is pleased to accept donations of books, videos and audio books in good condition.  Because of limited space, large donations should first be approved by the librarian.  Items that are duplicates or not appropriate to the collection will be held for the next book sale, sold to a dealer, or passed on.

Library Programs

The library offers programs to the community on a monthly basis.  Adultprograms are arranged to appeal to theintellect and interests of our patrons. Children enjoy story hours during the school year and a wonderful Summer Reading Program for five weeks during the summer.

Patron Requests

Patrons are encouraged to make book purchase suggestions.  The librarian will determine if the book is something that would be appropriate for the library to own, or if the book should be ordered through interlibrary loan.

Interlibrary Loan

Our library is able to receive materials from other libraries throughout the state.  To order a book, patrons must fill out a form with the title, author's name and their library card number. Van delivery occurs once a week on Tuesday mornings.  This service is sponsored by the NH State Library.
From the library iMac or in the privacy of your home, you can browse the state system,

Volunteers

Presently there are over 30 individuals who donate two or more hours a month to the library.  Their services at the circulation desk represent two thirds of all open hours.  Many have additional skills to assist the librarian with a variety of tasks.  The trustees and staff at Wilmot Public Library extend their admiration and appreciation to these outstanding individuals.  However, we are always ready to train new volunteers.  If you have an interest in this type of community service, you are encouraged to sign up!

L.U.V. Cooperative

WPL is a member of the “Libraries of the Upper Valley Cooperative.”  These libraries share a large collection of audio books, videos and DVDs which circulate throughout the member libraries, rotating every two months.
