No Fees
Wilmot Volunteer Fire Department provides the following permits at no charge to the           
                                                      taxpayers of Wilmot.
-Burning
-Oil / Gas / Monitor Heater

Outdoor Burning Regulations
- Fire permits are required for ALL outside fires.
 -Fire permits must be obtained by the landowner by contacting one of the Fire Wardens listed below.      
 - Fires are permitted without a permit when the ground is covered with snow, as long as the New London Dispatch is notified before hand at 526-2646.
 -Only One Day Permits are currently being issued after 4:00 PM, weather permitting.
 -You cannot burn on another person's property without their written permission.

Time Of Day You Can Burn
 -Burning is permitted between 5:00PM and 9:00AM, fire must be completely extinguished* at 9:00AM.
 -Fires during the day are permitted during heavy rain, but at the discretion of the Fire Warden.

Burn Conditions
-Someone MUST stay with the fire at all times until completely extinguished*.
- Fires cannot be extinguished by burying.
-You must be capable of extinguishing the fire at any time.
 -You may be financially responsible if you loose control of the fire.
- Fires kindled and material burned shall not be less than 50 feet from any structure and provisions shall be made to prevent a fire from spreading to within 50 feet of any structure.
*Completely Extinguished - To put out so that fire emits NO smoke, heat, or flames.  This is the most common and dangerous violation, strict adherence and enforcement of this law applies.
Note:
Violators will be billed when our services are used to respond and extinguish your outdoor fire, because of a violation of the above rules.


ITEMS YOU MAY NOT BURN
- Plastic of any kind
- Rubber products, including tires
- Paint buckets or brushes
- Painted or treated lumber or wood
 -Tar paper or shingles
 -Wood over 5 inches in diameter
 -Insulation including no wire insulation, styrofoam, and fiberglass  
 -Sheetrock
 -Stumps or logs
